This month started off slow – I had too much on my plate and was spending all of my reading time sleeping instead. Plus, I read a few duds that sent me into a bummed-out reading rut.
But then, on May 19th, Seattle Public Library launched their Summer Book Bingo, and my reading bones kicked into high gear. I’m in a mad fever moment of reviewing book lists, looking at what’s on my shelf, cross-checking my TBR with all the bingo categories, and asking my friends what they’re reading. And now I’m dreaming of reading books on the beach all summer long! (nevermind that I have a job and a toddler – I can dream, can’t I?)
For the second year, my friend and I have a shared list for bingo planning (Hi, Ingrid!). We have all the categories with books listed under each one – we use different symbols to signal if we’ve read it or not, and we share comments and recommendations with each other.
This type of planning is crucial because many books can fit into multiple categories! As new books come up throughout the summer and as we start to finish the books on our list, there is some required reshuffling to ensure blackout can be obtained and that’s where this supportive crowdsourcing and shared listing comes in handy.
Do you have a summer book bingo in your town? Are you getting a little too competitive with your kids’ scholastic summer reading challenge (do they even still do that?!)?
Also, in totally unexpected bonus book news, The Tournament of Books announced this morning that they’ll be doing a FULL BRACKET for summer reading this year. I am truly ending this month on a very excited reading note. Stay tuned for the next few months as they’re sure to be good.
For now, here’s all I read in May – happy summer reading!
