As I’ve been devouring time management books over the past few months in preparation for my Values-Based Time Management workshop yesterday (which was SO FUN, btw), I have learned that there are approximately one million tips and tricks out there for managing your time. A bunch of different people have a bunch of different ideas about how to help you squeeze every ounce out of your life, and each person is certain that their strategies are the magic bullet.
And for some people, they might be right!
I have gotten plenty of specific tips and tricks from various time-management influencers that have made enormous impacts on my life! And at the same time, other things they’ve shared have not worked at all.
No one person can give you all the answers for how to live your life – unless, of course, that one person is you. YOU are in charge of your own life.
If your calendar is packed but your days leave you feeling scattered, stuck, or just plain tired… you’re not alone!
Join me for my next Values-Based Time Management workshop so you can spend your days doing more of what matters most.
I’ve said this before and I’ve said it again; we are grown-ups! We get to make our own rules and then live by them in the way that works best for us.
This was the biggest takeaway from my workshop yesterday. We talked about how we spend our time, what matters to us, and came up with some strategies to rearrange things so more of what matters can fit into each day. But each person had a slightly different way of prioritizing various things into their life. Everyone has different priorities, even if their core values overlap. Everyone is living in a distinct season of life that has specific parameters and boundaries we choose to adhere to.
There were definitely some common themes that emerged – many of us spend more time on childcare, life admin, and boring, paid work than we’d like, and we want more time for ourselves to read or do creative work that fills our souls. As a group of working adults in modern society, these similarities make sense! We talked about how to rearrange what we could (some life admin), and reframe what we couldn’t (boring paid work allows us to take vacations!), so that the way we spend our time directly connects to what we value and prioritize.
With all of these variables, my main takeaway is this: We can’t do it all, but we can do a lot. Being a grown-up is hard! And we all have very full lives.
We all live in different seasons, value different things, and have different priorities. The details of another person’s life are going to be different from yours! You can’t do it all, but you can do a lot.
Want to talk more about your life and what you value in this season? Let’s figure out how you can spend more time doing what you love with the people you love.
